Keeping true to their name, Waldron Community Players’ 2010 production was another Community Play, a mixed media performance involving acting, singing, dancing and film. (Never let it be said that we don’t give good value!) Titled Black Sheep, the script was based on the real story of a man from the Waldron area who was transported to Australia at Her Majesty’s pleasure, in the first half of the 19th century, not once but twice. In our play, on his second return even his family fails to recognise him, until he reveals something only they can remember... Another blockbuster of a production, the audience followed the action from the village square, to an ancient barn, thence to the church and back to the barn. With a huge cast of children, villains and heroes, a Victorian father, a formidable aunt, a tart with a heart, a doctor with a conscience, a sea-dog without one and criminals aplenty, the action raced from a school of today, to a family kitchen, to a burglary, to a courthouse, then to a transportation ship, to Australia, back to England and...and...and. Performances were on 15th 16th and 17th July 2010. Poster by Malcolm Davis and photos by Geogina Nairne (www.georginanairne.co.uk)
